The Android TV is not being detected as a Google Cast device or the Android TV is detected but the connection fails.

Check the steps below if any of the following occurs:

  • The Android TV is not being detected as a Google Cast device. 
  • The Cast icon is available on the mobile device and the TV model is detected but the error message There was a problem connecting to XXX-XXXXX (Model name) appears and the connection fails.

 

Check the steps at the bottom of this article if The Cast icon is not displayed on the mobile device, or even if it is displayed, Cast does not work.

NOTE: Each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue. Check if the Google Cast function is working after completing each step.

  • Make sure that your device and the TV are connected to the same home network.

  • Update the Google Cast app to the latest version by following the steps below:

    1. Press the HOME button on the remote.
    2. Select the Google Play Store app in the Apps category,
    3. On the Google Play Store app, search for the Google Cast Receiver.

      NOTE: When searching through the Google Play Store, it is necessary to type the entire name of the app, otherwise the TV will not find the Google Cast Receiver app.

    4. Under the Google Cast Receiver app, click Update.
    5. On the Google Play Store App permissions screen, click on Continue.

      NOTE: The installation process will begin.

  • Make sure that your device and the TV have the correct time settings.

    How to set a method for acquiring the time:

    If the BRAVIA TV is connected to a network:

    For 2017 models:

    1. Press the HOME button on the remote.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Date & time in the SYSTEM PREFERENCES category.
    4. Select Automatic date & time.
    5. Select Use network time.
     

    For other models:

    1. Press the HOME button on the remote.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Date & time in the SYSTEM PREFERENCES category.
    4. Set Automatic date & time to On.
    5. Set Time synchronization to Use network-provided time.

    If the Cast icon is not displayed on the mobile device or the Cast does not work when the Cast icon is pressed, even when the device and the TV are connected to the same network, try the following.

  1. Terminate the Google Cast-enabled app on the mobile device, and restart it.

    NOTE: For details on how to terminate and restart apps, refer to the instructions manual, support website, etc. for your mobile device.

  2. Restart the wireless router. (Unplug the router, and wait approximately one minute before reconnecting the power.)
  3. Temporarily turn off the mobile device, and wait approximately one minute before turning it back on.
  4. Reset the TV.
