Issue: Wind noise may be heard when using Sony headphones or earbuds outdoors, especially when Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Mode is turned on. Why it happens: Wind noise is more likely to occur when Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Mode is enabled because these features use microphones that can pick up wind. What to try: Try adjusting the sound mode settings in the Sony | Sound Connect app, turning off Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Mode when needed, or changing how the headphones or earbuds are worn to help reduce wind hitting the microphones.
Use the buttons below to download the Sony | Sound Connect app on your smartphone.
Try adjusting the settings below using the Sony | Sound Connect app:
Use Wind Noise Reduction or Automatic Wind Noise Reduction, if your model supports it.
Lower the Ambient Sound level.
Turn off Voice Focus or Focus on Voice, if available.
Use Noise Canceling instead of Ambient Sound Mode in safe listening environments, such as indoors or on public transport.
Turn off Ambient Sound Mode when there is strong wind or while cycling.
If wind noise continues, turn off both Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound Mode. This reduces wind noise the most, but these features will not work while they are turned off.
Notes:
Avoid using Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Mode in situations where it may be unsafe if you cannot hear surrounding sounds, such as near road traffic.
Adjusting your position, checking the fit of your headphones or earbuds, and blocking direct airflow with clothing or hair can also help reduce wind noise.
Turn your headphones on and press the NC/AMB (Noise Canceling/Ambient Sound Mode) button to switch to Ambient Sound Mode. Note:Noise Canceling is turned on automatically when using the headphones for the first time after purchase or initialisation.
If wind noise increases in Ambient Sound Mode, lower the Ambient Sound Mode volume using the Sony | Sound Connect app.
If wind noise is still significant, use the app or NC/AMB button to turn off Ambient Sound Mode.
Notes:
If Adaptive Sound Control is enabled, Ambient Sound Mode may be activated depending on your actions, such as running or walking.
Turn off Adaptive Sound Control to prevent automatic switching to Ambient Sound Mode.
Use Noise Canceling manually when needed to reduce ambient noise.

Turn the headphones on and pair them with your smartphone.
Open the Sony | Sound Connect app.
Set Ambient Sound Control to Wind Noise Reduction.
Note: You can assign Ambient Sound Control to the NC/AMB button on the headphones and press it to switch between Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound Mode.

Select Noise Canceling.
Enable Automatic Wind Noise Reduction.
If necessary, turn off Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound Mode .
Notes:
When wind is detected, Automatic Wind Noise Reduction may reduce the effect of or disable the Noise Canceling feature. This is normal behaviour. Noise Canceling will resume automatically once the wind subsides.
Automatic Wind Noise Reduction only activates when wind noise is detected.
Using this feature may slightly reduce battery life.
The Automatic Wind Noise Reduction feature disables some microphones when strong wind is detected, which may make Noise Canceling seem less effective. Slight wind does not activate this feature.
Turn the earbuds on and pair them with your smartphone.
Open the Sony | Sound Connect app.
Lower the Ambient Sound Mode volume.
If wind noise continues, disable the Voice focus setting for Ambient Sound Mode.
If that doesn't work, turn off Ambient Sound Mode.
Notes:
Avoid covering the left and right microphones with your hands. Otherwise, functions such as Noise Canceling or Ambient Sound Mode may not work properly or the earbuds may make a beeping sound (feedback).
If Ambient Sound Mode is enabled in a rather noisy environment, a noise (beep) may be heard. This is not a malfunction. In this case, set Noise Canceling to ON or set Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound Mode to OFF.
