This article explains the following TV behaviors related to BRAVIA TV updates.
- Automatic updates
- LED blinking
- Power interruption during a software update
- UI or menu changes without notice
Automatic updates
Why did my TV update automatically?
Sony TVs are designed to automatically install important software updates to improve performance, stability, security, and compatibility with services and applications.
Note: To minimize disruption during normal usage, updates may be installed automatically while the TV is in standby mode (powered off).
Why did my TV suddenly display the update screen and restart?
If the TV has not completed a scheduled update for an extended period of time, the system may retry the installation later when conditions allow. In rare cases, this may occur while the TV is in use and cause:
- Temporary interruption of viewing
- The TV to restart
Once the software update is finished, the TV will operate normally again.
LED blinking
Why is the LED blinking while the TV is off?
TV may be installing an automatic software update.
- During software update installation, the TV status LED may blink temporarily even while the TV is powered OFF. This is normal behavior and indicates that the TV is processing the update in the background.
- The blinking typically lasts only a few minutes.
Why can’t I turn on the TV when the LED is blinking repeatedly?
TV may be installing an automatic software update.
- While the software update is being installed, all TV functions are temporarily unavailable to ensure the update completes safely and correctly.
During this time:
- The TV may not respond to the remote control or power button.
- The screen may remain off.
- The process usually completes within a few minutes.
After the update is finished, the TV will operate normally again.
Power interruption during a software update
What happens if the power is interrupted during a software update?
If the TV's power supply is interrupted during a software update, the TV's LED may blink, and TV may subsequently fail to start up.
BRAVIA TV is designed with protection mechanisms to reduce the risk of update failure.
However, if power is interrupted during a critical part of the installation process, the TV may not start properly afterward.
To avoid this, pay attention to the following points:
- Do not unplug the TV during software update.
- Ensure stable power while updates are being installed.
If the TV does not recover after power is restored, contact customer support.
UI or menu changes without notice
Why does the TV User Interface (UI) or menu look different after putting it on standby or RC OFF overnight? The UI changed after I restarted the TV.
TV's User Interface (UI), menu layout, visual design, or app behavior may change because of software or application updates.
These changes may occur:
- After a TV software update (OTA update)
- Through application or service-side updates from the Google Play Store
- Through server-side updates by Google or content providers
Some updates may occur automatically in the background or while the TV is in standby mode. As a result, you may notice changes to the user interface or TV behavior without being aware that an update occurred.
