Points to be checked before connecting the VAIO computer equipped with wireless LAN function to another manufacturer's access point.

Points to be checked before connecting the VAIO computer equipped with wireless LAN function to another manufacturer's access point. (Excludes the case where another manufacturer's wireless LAN PC card is used.)

    1. Items to set on the VAIO computer
The items are Network Name (SSID), Network Key and Key Length.
To determine Network Key, please refer to the instruction manual supplied with the access point or ask the administrator of the access network.

    2. Check the wireless channel used by the access point.
The channels for VAIO 2.4GHz wireless LAN devices can communicate through Channel 1 to Channel 11.
If the channels of the access point are set from 12 to 14, the VAIO computer cannot connect to the access point.

    3. Check the length of the encryption key used by the access point.
The usable length of a encryption key varies depending on access points.
Check the specifications of the wireless LAN card and the built-in wireless LAN and set them to the corresponding length of the encryption key.
The table below shows the length that VAIO 2.4GHz wireless LAN devices (excluding access points) can support:
