How to reinstall the Synaptics Touchpad driver?

    Reinstallation of the Synaptics Touchpad driver.

    Reinstallation of the driver will be required when
    1. The Synaptics PS/2 TouchPad driver is deleted from Mice and other pointing devices in Device Manager, and a new and different device driver is installed.

    2. The drivers of Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 key Ctrl + Alphanumerics), 101/102 English Keyboard or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard is deleted or updated from Keyboard in Device Manager.

    3. Synaptics TouchPad is deleted using Add or Remove Programs.

    4. The contents of Mouse Properties are the same as those of Standard PS/2 Mouse Properties.

    5. All the items shown in the Function tab of Mouse Properties are diabled and the settings cannot be changed.

    Note:
    If the Recovery CD-ROM of the VAIO computer consists of 2 CDs, use System Recovery CD-ROM VOL. 2 of 2. If there are 3 CDs, use System Recovery CD-ROM VOL. 3 of 3.

    The following procedure will install the default version driver. If the current driver is a more recent version, update the newer driver after completing the reinstallation.
    If another pointing device such as an external mouse is used, remove it before proceeding with the reinstallation.

    Please follow the steps below for the reinstallation procedure:

    A. When the System Recovery CD-ROM is used
    1. Log on to the computer as a user with Computer Administrator access.
    2. Click Start and click Control Panel.
    3. Click Performance and Maintenance.
    4. Click System.
    5. Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
    6. Double-click Mice and Other Pointing Devices
    7. Double-click a displayed pointing device.
    * In this example, select Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad.
    8. Select the Driver tab and click Update Driver.
    9. Select the Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) option and click Next.
    10. Select the Don't search. I will choose the driver to install option and click Next.
    11. Insert the Recovery CD and click Have Disk.
    12. Click Browse, select the CD drive and double-click the VAIO folder. Then, double-click the Drivers folder.
    * Check that SynTP.inf is displayed and click Open.
    13. Click OK and select Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad from the list. Then, click Next.
    14. When Completing the Hardware Update Wizard appears, click Finish.
    15. Remove the Recovery CD and click Close.
    16. Restart the VAIO computer.

    B. When the System Recovery CD-ROM is not used
    Note:
    If the sub-folder of C:\drivers has not been deleted or changed, reinstallation can be carried out without the use of the Recovery CD.
    However, it is recommended that the Recovery CD is used.

    The procedures are the same as above except Steps 11, 12 and 15. Please replace with the steps below accordingly.
    11. Click Have Disk.
    12. Click Browse, select Local Disk (C:) and double-click Drivers folder.
    * Check that SynTP.inf is displayed and click Open.
    15. Click Close.
