Changing the default search provider in the Internet Explorer 8 software.

The Internet Explorer 8 software offers the ability to change the default search provider used within the browser. For example, users can change from the current search engine to AOL Search, Google, Live Search, Ask.com, Lycos.com, or Yahoo.com. A list of additional search providers are available from the Add Search Providers to Internet Explorer Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx.

Follow this procedure to change the default search engine.

    1. Open the Internet Explorer software.
    2. On the menu bar, click Tools, and then click to select Internet Options.
    3. In the Internet Options window, on the General tab, under the Search option, click the Settings button.
    4. In the Change Search Defaults window, click to select the desired Search Provider and click then click the Set as Default button.
    5. If the desired provider is not listed, at the bottom of the window, click the Find More Providers link and then click to select the desired provider.
    6. Once the desired Search provider has been set as default, click the OK button.
    7. In the Internet Options window, click the OK button.
