    Pre-capture: Settings customization methods

If you assign [Pre-Capture] to any button in the custom key settings, you can switch pre-capture ([On]/[Off]) each time you press the button.

    Setting procedures

Select MENU → (Setup) → [Operation Customize] → [Custom Key/Dial Set.] → (select desired key) → shooting tab → [Drive Mode] → [Pre-Capture].
When you press the button assigned to [Pre-Capture], and pre-capture is set to [On], the (pre-capture) icon will be displayed at the bottom of the screen when shooting still images.

    Notes

    • The icon will automatically disappear after a continued period of inactivity, unless [DISP (Screen Display)] is set to [Display All Info.].

    [Pre-Captr. Start Trigger] settings

You can select the pre-capture start trigger from [Shutter Half Press], [AF Assign Btn], or [Both Valid]. Set it according to your shooting style, such as using back-button AF. The default setting is [Both Valid].

    Setting procedures

Select MENU → (Shooting) → [Drive Mode] → [Pre-Capture Settings] → [Pre-Captr. Start Trigger] → [Shutter Half Press], [AF Assign Btn], or [Both Valid].

    [Shutter Half Press]:
Pre-capture will only start when you press the shutter button halfway down. Pre-capture will not start when you press the key to which you have assigned AF operation (AF-ON button by default), except when you press the shutter button halfway down.
    [AF Assign Btn]:
Pressing the key to which you have assigned AF operation will start pre-capture. If you set [AF w/ Shutter] in MENU to [Off], you can set [AF Assign Btn] so that pre-capture will not start when you press the shutter button halfway down.
    [Both Valid]:
This is the default setting value.

Example of setting using back-button AF

To use AF operation by only pressing AF-ON (the button to which the AF-ON function is assigned) rather than pressing the shutter button halfway down, first set [AF w/ Shutter] to [Off].

    Setting procedures

    Select MENU → (Focus) → [AF/MF] → [AF w/ Shutter] → [Off].

This is an example using [Pre-Captr. Start Trigger] while setting [AF w/ Shutter] to [Off].

    [AF Assign Btn]:
For when you want pre-capture to start at the same time as when you press AF-ON (the button to which the AF-ON function is assigned). Pre-capture will not start when pressing the shutter button halfway down.
    [Shutter Half Press]:
For when you want pre-capture to start only when pressing the shutter button halfway down by setting “AF w/ Shutter: Off” to prevent AF operation.
