Before you start
- There are restrictions on importing Digital8 or MiniDV camcorder movies via USB cable. For details, refer to the following:
Tape Camcorder importing guide - Some computer operating systems may require you to be logged on as an Administrator or with administrator rights.
- If the computer is connected to a network, it may be necessary to temporarily disable the network connection or connect the camcorder to a computer not on a network.
Check Basic Connections
-
Use the correct USB cable: Ensure you are using the original USB cable that came with the camcorder. It may not be possible to import using a USB cable made by another manufacturer even if you are capable of charging it. Connection through a USB hub is not supported. Damaged or third-party cables may not work properly.
-
Try a different USB port: Plug the USB cable into another port on your computer to rule out a faulty port. Make sure the USB cable is securely connected to the camcorder.
-
Test on another computer: Connect the camcorder to another computer to determine if the issue is with the camcorder or the original computer.
Restart the Camcorder
-
Turn off the camcorder for 30 seconds.
-
After 30 seconds, turn the camcorder on again.
IMPORTANT: After being turned on, some camcorder models require you to select USB CONNECT or COMPUTER on the LCD screen. If necessary, refer to the camcorder instruction manual for further information.
Manuals are posted on your model support page.
Inspect for Hardware Issues
-
Check the USB port on the camcorder: Ensure the port is not damaged, rusty or dirty.
-
Inspect the USB cable: Look for frayed wires or bent connectors. Replace the cable if necessary.
Check Camcorder Settings
