I have sony rx10mk4 and it is much better. 20 px and 24-600 in one. Very good redition of all even in low light. Image stabilization included. All you need, plus raw.

the price is no joke..but its a GM lense and it carries the name well. super sharp and fast..

barely a month old and already has dust on the inside of the lens affecting picture quality. Major regret buying this, i didn't go second hand as i didn't want dust in such a expensive lens... May as well have saved myself the money.

Great sharpness and contrast. If you are okay with 400mm, its a great lens. But can't be a replacement for 200-600mm on the long end and 70-200mm f2.8 on the short end. Its a great light weight telephoto lens that covers a very useful range.

I purchased this lens alongside my recent purchase of an a7IV. I have only managed to use it a few times for testing but am so far extremely impressed with the image quality it provides. I can’t wait to use this for future wildlife and sports shoots. I’ve enjoyed using this so far both in full frame and APS-C modes for that added reach.

Great lens, I’m on a learning curve with it but I’m getting more right than wrong. The picture quality is amazing and focus is super quick.

Lightning fast and very sharp; I only have one minor moan: the focus limiters are very easy to engage, using back button focus they are totally unnecessary and are best disabled otherwise a stunning lens.

Needed a longer zoom lens, and after doing a lot of checking with other makes, weight, size, price and other reviews, decided on this 100-400mm. Glad i did, very fast focusing, lovely smooth zooming in and out and not too heavy, even with a vertical grip, was able to do hand held shoots. Picture quality was excellent.

This lens is fantastic and so versitile and probably the most versitle lens you can buy, its very sharp and paired with the a9ii and the a1 it gives exceptional results, the best thing it has a minum focus rage of 1mtr so for semi macro especially butterflies which are notoriously difficult to get close to this lens is a game changer as well as the reach for wildlife with 400mm

Excellent build quality. High quality construction. Not as heavy as I thought it would be, which is good. Has three assignable buttons one can use in portrait/landscape orientations. Detachable foot. Slide door on hood enabling access when wanting to adjust circular polarizing filter--all very practical. The focus ring is buttery smooth, as is the focal length adjustment ring--very good for video use. The optical image stabilization works seamlessly on my A7RIII. At 400mm, I have been able to take sharp images hand held at 1/80th of a second shutter speed. The lens is very very sharp at all focal lengths, which is why I said "Why Buy the 70-200 GM When You Can Have the 100-400GM?" If you need a telephoto zoom for portraits in low light, this is not your lens. But I feel very comfortable saying this lens would make an excellent portrait lens in studio and outdoors in good lighting. Don't forget 400mm at 5.6 isolates the subject and blows out the background just as well as 135mm or 200mm at f/2.8. No need to worry so much a HSS to get that effect, either.

I have used this lens with my A7RV and it is more than capable of resolving the 61mp sensor despite being an older lens, rendering a vast amount of detail. Brilliantly sharp and very quick to autofocus in conjunction with the camera system. Recommended without hesitation.

I hired this lens for two holidays before taking the plunge and buying one for myself. I've been thrilled with the sharp images I've obtained of wildlife. 400mm is enough to capture animals at some distance without being so heavy that I can't hold it steady. 100mm is short enough for the animals that come somewhat closer. It's an excellent lens which works well with my A7iii camera.

I rented a copy of this lens to assess the dífference as it is quite expensive. It was apparent after the first day this was the balance of performance, focal length and weight was excellent. I traded two thirds party lenses, both very good, when I bought this lens.

takes too long to focus often, very disappointed, i have all g masters and thought they would be faster and keep focused.

I've been unable to get a refund after purchasing product here in the online sony store. Horrible Pincushioning from 330MM to 400MM makes lens unusable for purchased purpose. Sony hasn't returned my messages or emails. Please issue a refund or exchange to a working lens. Received from Sony on March 19, 2024.

So happy with my new camera and lenses. Great quality pics with ease of use. Far exceeded my expectations

Excellent lens, sharp and quick AF. Much smaller and lighter for travel than my 200-600. Works great with both the 1.4 and 2.0 TC when there is enough light for the F-stop reduction. Has short minimum focal distance and have used for everything from wildlife to sports, landscape, flower closeup and portrait. Primarily use for travel when I don't carry 2 bodies fitted with other lens. Big disappointment is no zoom lock on external zoom GM lens. Has softer/tighter ring but lens creeps even on tighter setting. I knew this when I bought it but other features offset.

Have had for about 5 years. It is truly great. No regrets about spending all the money.

I bought this lenses as the 2-600mm became too heavy for my injured shoulder. Although I have been totally satisfied using my 70-200mm with the 2X TC, the added reach combined with great autofocus, sharpness and lighter weight make this lens my "go to" for birds.

A compact and fairly light lens which I have used for sports photography eg. football and the optical quality is superb

Having owned the excellent A-mount 70-400 f4-5.6, which traveled with me for mainly wildlife photography all over the world, I wanted the performance benefits of this lens with the Alpha 7 etc series of FE mount bodies, in particular the ability to use the telephoto converters with a rich range of features. I am delighted to have made the transition. Results with and without the TCs are excellent and the autofocus features are a real pleasure. Highly recommended.

Had this 3 weeks and it is a superb example of a 100-400 professional zoom.

After using this lens for almost a month, I am extremely pleased with it. Coming from the 200-600G, listed below are some of the advantages that I appreciated. IMHO. Lighter and smaller to travel with. Close focusing distance. More appropriate for diff genres of photography. More sticky AF for birds in flight. Combines well with 1.4tc Fits most shoulder bags Sharper images. I thought I would end up with just one of the two in comparison. However, I had decided to keep both. They are both excellent lens for different purposes.

Ive been wanting this lens for a couple years but i kept not buying it because its so expensive. And being retired money is not easy to come by. Im 75 years old now so it was really a want instead of a need. So i just want to let others know that this lens is awesome and a definite keeper. Wish i could have bought it sooner. I have a Sony telephoto 70 to 200 f4. But found it just didn't have the reach i wanted a lot of the time. I read the reviews of others trying different brands and they didn't seem satisfied so thats why i got the Sony….its focus is amazing and I'm totally satisfied.

I bought one of these about 3-4 years ago when I first changed over to Sony as, other than the 400 f2.8, it was the biggest lens that Sony did. Soon after though, they brought out the 200-600 so I bought one of those as well. Last year I bout the 400 f2.8 and decided to sell my 100-400 to a friend. Big mistake as the 100-400 is so good and so useful so.... I bought aniother copy a few weeks back

I have owned this lens for 3mth. It’s a great lens for wildlife and other types of photography. I use it predominantly handheld and have some great results. It’s a pity the zoom isn’t internal like the 200 -600, in hides when zooming in and out particularly behind glass mean moving back and forwards. The lens is light weight enough to use for a long session handheld and travel. I do on occasions use the 1.4x extender and again have had some great results. If you’re looking for a versatile lens that give great results, then this is a good choice.

I bought the lens seconhand from LCE recently as a treat for myself after coming into some money, as I have always dreamt of owning it. It is paired with my Sony A9 and what an amazing combination it has turned out to be. It is a bit of a learning curve how to use it, with the incredible focal range, but I am getting used to it now. It's great for landscapes, wildlife, portraits of the family and of course sports (but not yet had chance to try this yet). The image quality is out of this world even when zoomed fully in, the build quality is of course excellent for a GM lens and it has now opened up a whole new world of photography for me!

I've had this lens for a few months now,very happy with it,excellent quality.

Image quality is superb, reminds me of my old Sony A mount 70-400G but seems lighter and easier to handle. I find the zoom ring a bit stiff even on the smooth setting compared to similar zooms from Canon and Nikon. All in all an excellent lens.

Not a lightweight lens but very high quality and sharp across the range

Spent the last few years using various other telephotos such as the sigma 100-400 and the Tamron 70-300, mainly because they’re cheaper. Finally decided to take the plunge and spend a little more (double). All I can say is I should’ve gone straight for the Sony! Better in every way and just pure joy to use. Puts a smile on my face every time I pick it up!

Got this for wildlife photos and it does not disappoint. Very happy with the image quality and how responsive the lens is.

only take it off to switch to a wide angle lens. produces sharp images and so far tracks moving objects with incredible accuracy. paired it with the 1.4 teleconverter and it is still super sharp and fast. in my opion it is well worth the price I paid

I bought this one month ago and have been using it on my a9 have not managed to take an out of focus shot absolutely superb lens

I have owned and used the Sony 24mm, 24-105 and 70-200 lenses. I also have the 24-70 2.8. Despite other lenses being more compact, the Sony 100-400 GM is on my a7Riii all the time. I only switch when I want to photography something specific. Many people say the 70-200 is a good all around lens, but I now use the 100-400 instead, which has replaced the 70-200. I love the close focusing distance, fast focus and image quality from the 100-400GM. And yes, I use it mostly hand held, which is a testament to the overall handling of this lens.

Incredibly sharp, very fast focus, good minimal focus distance. The G Master delivers everything it promises, but you do have to pay for it.

I use other 100-400 for other manufacturers but this one sit on top in so many things, the results that you get are amazing, paired with a high resolution camera like A7R show no laws what so ever

This lens is wonderfully well-designed and built and relatively small and light. It produces outstanding images from an A7R4 at 100mm from wide open. At 400mm it can produce very sharp images in evenly lit scenes. My copy suffers from veiling if there are highlights in the scene, with loss of contrast. I'm assuming that the coatings are not fully up to the GM label and price.

I have recently moved from A mount to E mount and required a telephoto zoom lens, as I like landscape, sports and moving objects like birds. So I chose this lens as it it had everthng that I required. It is just a fantastic lens with great zoom capability

I knew this lens was good and since its purchase it has exceeded all my expectations, a wonderfully sharp cary around all day lens

What a super lens, it's done everything I’ve asked of it. If it wasn’t that I need more reach sometimes I would leave it on the camera all the time

Acquired for my new ILCE-74M. My first ever Sony product.

Great for nature photography. Not too heavy so I can handhold it. The shot of the otters was taken from about 200 metres away and then cropped. Note the tortoise in the background.

First impressions, using it with my Sony A7R111, razor sharp images at all focal lengths, focusing fast and accurate. The lens feels well balanced and relatively light considering it’s size. Seems easy to use handheld but I use it mostly on a monopod, my only criticism would be the tripod foot doesn’t have a Swiss Arca fitting requiring the purchase of a suitable plate. Quality of the lens appears great but I can’t comment on durability having only had it a short while, overall I think this is a great lens and anyone taking the time to use it properly certainly wouldn’t regret the purchase

This lens gives bitingly sharp with images and produces good Bokeh. I don't find the focussing as good as I had hoped from reading reviews beforehand

Great telephoto lens. Not good for low light applications tho. Day light photography unless you want to use crazy high iso. Auto focus is definitely on point!

This is a quality lens giving pin sharp images throughout the zoom range. It is also excellent to use as a macro lens, and also works well with the 1.4 converter. It isn't the lightest lens but I have no problem carrying it all day on a black rapid strap.
