Firmware Update procedures
- Prepare the recording medium.
Format the Sony Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo media with the camera.
WARNING: The Memory Stick media must be
formatted in the camera. All data on the recording media, including even
protected images, will be erased by formatting and cannot be restored.
- Copy the update file to the recording medium.
Copy the firmware update file DSCH2V2.ASH to the Sony Memory Stick Duo
/ PRO Duo media with one of the procedures below. These procedures vary based on
your computer configuration.
- If your computer has a memory card slot that is compatible with your
Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo media:
- Insert the camera-formatted Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo media into the memory
card slot of your computer.
- Copy the update file DSCH2V2.ASH to the Memory Stick Duo /
PRO Duo media.

* Using with Memory Stick Duo Adaptor.
- If you have a memory card reader compatible with your Memory Stick
media and your computer does not have an appropriate memory card
slot:
- Connect the memory card reader to the computer.
- Insert the camera-formatted Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo media in the memory
card reader.
- Copy the update file DSCH2V2.ASH to the Memory Stick Duo /
PRO Duo media.
- If your computer does not have a memory card slot that is compatible
with your Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo media and you do not have an appropriate
memory card reader:
- Prepare the camera
- If the camera is connected to the computer with the USB cable,
disconnect the USB cable.
- If not already there, insert the Sony Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo media containing the update file DSCH2V2.ASH into the camera.
- Set the camera to update mode
- Make sure you are using batteries that are fully charged or that
the ACV-LS5K AC Adaptor (purchased separately) is plugged into a
working outlet.
WARNING: Please be sure to use the AC
Adaptor or full charged battery as power source as the camera may
not work properly if the power runs out during the update.
- Set the mode dial to
(Auto adjustment mode) before turning on the power.
- Press playback button (2) while
pressing and holding the MENU button
(1), and keep holding the MENU
button for longer than 2 seconds. When the "Cyber-shot"
screen disappears, release the MENU button.

The menu appears.
Move the control button rightward to
Setup, and move it further rightward.
NOTE 1:
The message
No file in this folder will appear on the screen even though
the inserted Memory Stick has the firmware recorded in it. This is
normal (not failure). Please proceed to the next step.

Note 2 : If the menu is not displayed, press the MENU button.
- Move the control button rightward to
Setup, and then move it further rightward as needed to display the
setup screen (as shown below).
- In the Setup screen, move the control button downward to
select Setup 2. Confirm that "1" is displayed in
Version.

- If Version is not displayed, turn off the power and redo
this section of the procedure (Set the camera to update mode
).
- If "2" is displayed in Version, this update is not required.

- Update the firmware version
- Use the control button to select Version, and then select
Update.
NOTE: The "Access" screen briefly appears.
| If the
following errors occur: |

If Error20: No software file appears:
- Cause: The firmware update file does not exist in the
recording media.
- Solution: Check the contents in the recording media
with the computer, and then redo the entire Software Updating
Instructions procedure.

If Error30: Format Memory Stick before use appears:
- Cause: There are multiple files or folders on the
Memory Stick media because it was not formatted before the
firmware update file was transferred.
- Solution: Format the Memory Stick media in the camera,
and then redo the entire Software Updating Instructions procedure.

If Error40: Invalid file appears:
- Cause: The contents of the file in the recording media
are invalid, its version is not newer than the original version,
or the firmware is for a different model camera.
- Solution: Check the version of the firmware in your
camera and, if necessary, download the correct firmware, and then
redo the entire Software Updating Instructions procedure.

Please contact the nearest
Sony service center if you have any questions
about the process of firmware update.
- Check the version to be updated, and if it is correct, select OK
to start the update.
NOTE: If you select Cancel, the Setup screen appears again.
- Select OK to start the update.
NOTE: If you select Exit, the Setup screen appears again.
- During the update, the following "Updating" screen appears and the
circle signs will blink.
NOTE: When all three circles are lit, the update is finished.
| If the
following errors occur: |
| If the circles stop blinking in the "Updating" screen for more
than 30 seconds: |
If the circles stop blinking for more than 30 seconds:
- Cause: The update may have failed.
- Solution 1: Detach AC Adapter / battery and wait for
more than 5 seconds, then plug-in adapter / install batteries
again. Perform the update procedure again.

If Error10: See the software updating instruction appears:
- Cause: The update may have failed.

- When the update is successfully finished, the "Finished" screen
appears.
- Press control button for a few seconds until turn off the power of
the camera.

- Check the firmware version after updating
- Set the mode dial to
- Press playback button (2) while
pressing and holding the MENU button (1),
and keep holding the MENU button for longer
than 2 seconds.
When the "Cyber-shot" screen disappears, release the MENU button.
* Please be sure to use the AC Adaptor or full charged battery as power
source .

The menu appears.
Move the control button rightward to
Setup, and move it further rightward.
- Move the control button rightward to
Setup, and then move it further rightward as needed to display the
setup screen (as shown below).
- In the Setup screen, move the control button downward to
select Setup 2. Confirm that "2" is displayed in
Version.

- If the version has successfully been updated, go ahead and reformat
the Sony Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo media to remove the firmware update file.
The installation of the DSC-H2 Cyber-shot Camera Firmware Update is now
complete.
