Sony Wins Eight Red Dot Award 2020 For Product Design
(ASIA PACIFIC, 2 April 2020) – Sony today announced seven products across various categories that have been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2020, as well as a product with double wins due to a new metacategory. The Red Dot Award is one of the world’s largest design competitions that is referred to as an international label of outstanding design quality.
The BRAVIA Z8H Series won the exceptional Red Dot: Best of the Best
The BRAVIA Z8H 8K LED Series received the exceptional Red Dot: Best of the Best, while the following products received the Red Dot: The Xperia 1 flagship smartphone, the WF-1000XM3 truly wireless headphones, the WH-H910N h.ear™ on 3 wireless noise-cancelling headphones, the DUALSHOCK®4Back Button Attachment, and the toio™ hands-on “toy platform”. On top of the Red Dot Award: Product Design, the VENICE digital cinema camera with VENICE Extension System received double recognition under the new metacategory for “Innovative Products”, a special category that focuses on the degree of innovation.
The Red Dot Design Award is administered by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. The product design entries are judged by the Red Dot Jury, which comprises some 40 international experts, on nine criterions that are constantly adapted to new technical, social and ecological requirements. Winning products have ticked of all the boxes, including degree of innovation, formal quality, ergonomics, functionality, durability, product periphery, self-explanatory quality, ecological compatibility, and symbolic and emotional content.

The VENICE with VENICE Extension System lauded for its degree of innovation
The VENICE digital cinema camera with full-frame sensor, widely embraced by the production community, together with the VENICE Extension System, won in a second entry under a new metacategory “Innovative Product” for its competitiveness and futureproof design, an increasingly important element in the era of digitisation.
Announced in 2018, the lightweight, easy to use tethered VENICE Extension System allows for the camera body to be detached from the image sensor block with no degradation in image quality, offering film producers a highly configurable and portable method of operation. This is a mark of outstanding mobility to create even better imagery, unlocking the future of film cinematography.
