I'm Baron and our studio has been in business since 1999, giving us a 2 decades long adventure in video production. We are a team of film makers and content creators who are adept at filming on land, under the sea or in the air to produce content for media ranging from commercials and TV shows, to corporate films for local and international clients and product review videos.

Find out how Baron shoots corporate videos with the AX700 in the behind-the scenes video below. The AX700 comes equipped with professional features such a 1.0 type sensor, 12x optical zoom, built-in ND filters and more, packed in a compact sized body.

1. Why did you choose to use the AX700? How are you using it for your work?

We value a camera that’s specifically built for video shooting with a small form factor and we found that in the versatile AX700. It packs a long zoom in a lightweight, compact body and it comes with a wide range of professional features built-in. The AX700 is perfect for outdoor run & gun situations. In the studio, it performs admirably and integrates seamlessly with our existing gear - whether it’s audio, lights or stabilisers, the AX700 fits right in. Our work takes us to challenging and remote locations and I’m happy to say the AX700 handles these locations very well, especially in our hot weather. It doesn’t overheat and has great battery life.

Lightweight body ideal for hand held recording.

Lens ring allows for manual adjustment of focusing or zooming.

2. What are the Benefits/Features in the Handycam that are relevant in your area of work?

4K resolution is integral to our workflow and the AX700 shoots 4K with a built-in 12x optical zoom lens. This allows us to work with a wide focal range without having to pack additional lenses.

The AX700 comes equipped with professional features such as manual dial and buttons which allow swift, easy adjustments of Iris, (Aperture), GAIN/ISO and Shutter Speed.

Simple but thoughtful design features like the physical buttons let us operate the AX700 in darkness. For corporate interviews, I can manually control the audio levels. There’s a mic and headphone jack for working with audio gear. This is a fully manual camera and I appreciate that I can individually adjust all exposure settings.

Without ND filter

During outdoor shoots, the built-in ND filters help us manage exposure levels even better. If you’re looking to colour grade your footage, the AX700 comes with Picture Profile that has S-log2 and S-log3 in just a couple of clicks away.

3. Why would you recommend the AX700 to other industry professional?

The AX700 keeps a production team working efficiently to produce professional quality videos. Every camera deserves to have some TLC but the AX700 is a workhorse that keeps pace with your team whether you’re a one-man operation or a multi-camera production. You’ll find it effortless to fit the AX700 into your workflow and who knows, it may give you the TLC you deserve.

Key Features

4K HDR (HLG) movie quality

4K HDR (HLG) movie quality

High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology puts a visual revolution on display by revealing far wider ranges of colour and brightness, fully realising the exceptional quality of high-resolution 4K images. Moreover, with Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) recording capability, the FDR-AX700 makes it easy to immediately enjoy, without extra processing, HDR images, simply by connecting the camera to a HLG-compatible Sony TV via a USB cable.

ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens

ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens

Custom ZEISS optics are fine-tuned to deliver the full beauty of 4K, with pin-sharp detail to every corner, thanks to the use of both advanced aspherical (AA) and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements.
The 29mm wide angle means grand landscapes can be captured, or you can get a closer view with up to 12x optical and 24x Clear Image zoom.

Built-in ND filters

Built-in ND filters

Choose among Clear, 1/4, 1/16 and 1/64 Neutral Density filters to adjust the light level entering the lens. This gives video makers the freedom to precisely control shutter speed and aperture for greater creative possibilities. In conjunction with the camcorder’s large image sensor, it allows creation of beautifully smooth bokeh background defocus effects without increasing shutter speed, even if you’re shooting outdoors in sunny conditions.

S-Gamut and S-Log shooting

S-Gamut and S-Log shooting

S-Gamut and S-Log shooting gives you flexibility to make more expressive movies by performing colour grading in post-production. S-Log3 and S-Log2 gamma provides wide dynamic range shooting (1300%) to minimise blown highlights and black crush.
