Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens is a standard zoom lens for mirrorless cameras that counters Full-frame. The focal distance of 24-70mm shows the opposite angle of 84°-34° and it can respond to various environments such as landscapes, snaps, and events. The lens is composed of 18 elements and 13 groups and it is applied with 2 sets of aspherical lens, Super ED lens, and ED lens thus shows excellent definition and aberration controlling skill, and it minimizes the light reflected through Nano AR coating and improved penetration. It is equipped with F2.8s fast aperture value so it is advantageous to shoot not only the outside but also the inside, and the level of Depth of field is also quite good. Because the previously introduced ZEISS 24-70mm F4OSS lens had F4'''s fixed aperture value it will seem more attractive to users who needed brighter aperture value. AF motor loads the new DDSSM motor so it shows silent yet fast AF function, and the wobbling effect is minimized so it satisfies the users to the fullest when taking pictures as well as shooting films. The close-up skill is 38cm which is 0.24 times more excellent, and it is finished with inner focus, and sealing for damp proof and protection against dust. The length of lens is 136mm, and the maximum diameter is 87.6mm. The shape is big and long like a lens for DSLR camera, but it is understandable considering it is a high specification lens that focuses on the super high-definition, because it can'''t get away from the limitation of optical technology just because it is a mirrorless camera. The sense of grip is great since the length of lens is quite long, and the operation of zoom-ring and focus-ring is also great.

Max-Min

This is the variable that designates the minimum value of contrast distinguishing black and white. Lower value allows detailed detection. 10% is used in this review.

Cycle

The maximum amount of pixel needed to mark one distinguishable black and white line is shown. The cycle decreases as the resolution increases.

Result

The value of resolution marked as LW/PH is shown. It is included in 'the maximum amount of distin guishable black and white line that fully fills up the height of output' or 'the doubled value which cycle divided the height of output' and is effected by all number of camera pixel and lens resolution. This test is value decipher according to the logic of program which may have difference with value that is decipherable visually through indicated numbers on the guideline.

Result

It has recorded a very excellent resolution that transcends the maximum resolution of maximum 4000LW/PH from F2.8's full aperture to F16 in A7RII of 42.4 million pixels. The resolution in F22 is also very high so it can be said that the lens is the one that can respond to high resolution in every range. In case of the definition of peripheries, although it can't be converted to numerical value, it was found to be of a very excellent level in every part of aperture even when looking at it with the naked eye. Result

As being the standard zoom lens that responds to 35mm Full-frame, it supports full aperture of F2.8 in every interval, and the minimum aperture is also all the same as F22. Maximum aperture refers to the maximum value of full aperture, and minimum aperture refers to the minimum amount of aperture.

Observe flare and ghost through the result of shooting in the sun in the daylight and shooting as video in the night artificial light. Flare and ghost restraint is excellent in both wide angle and telephoto, and the size of flare is quite small so the pressure is less when shooting.

Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM

SONY FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens is E mount standard zoom lens that responds to Full-frame mirrorless camera. Since it is the first time introduced as GM, Sony's new premium lens line-up, it is applied largely with Sony's latest lens technique such as Nano AR Coating, XA lens, and DDSSM Motor, etc. Focal length of 24-70mm provides field angle of the opposite angle of 84-34 degrees from Wide angle to Semi-telephoto, and it can respond to landscape shooting, snapshots and event shootings of all-weather. Aperture is advantageous in securing shutter speed and expressing Depth of field with F2.8 fixed in every focal lensgh, and its availability is very high since it shows excellent definition in every range. Vignetting slightly appears in F2.8 and it has almost no effect from F4.0. This lens shows every excellent resolution in 42,4MP A7R II. Especially the fact that it shows very high quality even in the peripheries not just the central part is a very big advantage. AF Motor loaded a new kind of motor called DDSSM(Direct Drive Suer Sonic Motor), and this motor is silent yet fast in AF speed, and the wobbling effect is minimized so it provides excellent availability in both pictures and films. Minimum focus distance is prominent with about 38cm in every interval, and since it provides excellent definition from open shooting so the use of lens can be various. Especially Starburst feature is very excellent so it is expected to be used frequently for shooting of night view, and the Bokeh expression is also beautiful through XA LENS that enables more beautiful bokeh expression. While already having Carl zeiss Vario-tessar T* F4 ZA OSS lens model previously introduced, SONY released FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens with high-class specifications selected for it such as F2.8 aperture, XA lens, Nano AR coating and such so it can be said that this lens is of a higher level than FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS lens. But rather than be rated as upper or lower concept of product level, FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS is a lense of compactness and high portability used for taking pictures, and FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens is developed in consideration of not only picture taking but also image shooting so it is best to distinguish the two as of different features. Overall, SONY FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens can be said to be the lens of the best definition among the similarly levelled lenses and while being silent it has fast AF speed and it has almost no wobbling so it can satisfy not only the photographers who require images of super-high resolution and high quality but also directors who shoot exclusive films. It is expected that SONY, through GM lens, will continuously expand its market as high-class user domain.
