How to reset the Android TV™ to factory settings

    Before you start

    IMPORTANT: This solution applies to Android TVs. For BRAVIA TVs other than Android TVs, refer to the following articles:

    WARNING: The Factory data reset will clear all of your customized settings including the parental lock setting and followings, and the TV will return to how it was at the time of purchase.

    • Google Account 
    • System & Applications data
    • Downloaded Applications
    • Channels
    • Wireless network settings

    NOTES:

    • First try performing a Power Reset if you have not done so already. A Power Reset does not usually reset settings such as those mentioned above to factory settings.
    • Some of application's data might be recovered if Apps synced with your Google account.
      • Android™ 9, Android 10:
        HOME — Settings — Device Preferences or Accounts & Sign-InGoogle — Choose synced apps — select items which sync with account — Sync now
      • Android 7.0, Android 8.0:
        HOME — Settings — Google — Choose synced apps in Sync — select items which sync with account — Sync now
      • Android 6.0:
        HOME — Settings — Personal — Google — Choose synced apps in Sync — select items which sync with account — Sync now
    • The factory reset may take a few moments. Please wait until you are informed that the process has been completed.
    • After the Factory Reset process completes successfully, your TV proceeds into the Initial Setup wizard. You will need to agree to the Google Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
    • If you use Touchpad remote control, the pairing sequence will have to be activated again after a factory reset.

    How to perform a Factory data reset

    Select the status of your TV below. The operation procedure varies depending on the status of the TV.

    If the Home screen can be displayed

    NOTES:

    • For X74H / X75H: Skip step 5 and 6.
    • For X7, and W8 series: Skip step 6.
    • The display screen may differ depending on the model or OS version.
    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Press the HOME button on the remote control.
    3. Select  Settings.
    4. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
      • Select Device PreferencesReset.
      • Select Device Preferences — AboutReset or Factory reset.
      • Select Storage & Reset.
    5. Select Factory data reset.
    6. Select Erase Everything.
      NOTE: If asked to provide a password, enter the password for the Parental lock (Broadcast).
    7. Select Yes.

    If the Home screen cannot be displayed (the HOME button on the remote control does not work)

    For X74H / X75H, X7, and W8 series:

    If there is a response when you press the  ACTION or Quick Settings button on the remote control, follow the procedure below.

    1. Press the  ACTION or Quick Settings button on the remote control.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Device Preferences.
    4. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
      • Select About — Factory reset — Factory date reset.
      • Select Reset.
      • Select About — Reset.

    For other models:

    If there is a response when you press the HELP button on the remote control, follow the procedure below.
    NOTES:

    • The display screen may differ depending on the model or OS version.
    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Press the HELP button on the remote control.
    3. Select Manual (Help Guide) or Help Guide in How to use your TV.
    4. Select Settings.
    5. Select Configuring the TV.
    6. Select Watching TV or TV.
    7. Select   Settings.

    8. The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
      • Select Device PreferencesReset. (Android 9)
      • Select Storage & reset. (Android 8.0 or earlier)
    9. Select Factory data reset.
    10. Select Erase Everything.
      NOTE: If asked to provide a password, enter the password for the Parental lock (Broadcast).
    11. Select Yes.
