What to do when the starting time of Windows becomes longer if Windows automatic update is paused in Windows XP ?

    • When Windows Automatic Updates suddenly stops working, it will take longer time to start Windows.
    • When logging on Windows, it takes 2 to 10 minutes to start all the startup programs (Resident Software) and services.
    • The System Properties and Connection Properties cannot be opened until the system completes the startup of the resident.
    • When shutting down or restarting the computer, user will stay on the Saving the setting page for a long time or the computer stops responding.
    Take client's consulting contents for example.
    • In the Start menu, the computer stops responding when clicking Connect To.
    • Cannot open the Start menu.
    • The computer stops reponding at startup.
    1. Confirm whether Automatically download recommended updated for my computer and install them has been selected in the Automatic Updates under the System Properties page.

    2. Connect to the Internet.

    3. After finishing the preparation of downloading and installing the Automatic updates, if the message New updates are ready to install appears in the System Tray, please start to install the Automatic updates.

    4. When starting Automatic Updates, please disconnect the Internet and restart Windows.

       

    5. It takes longer time to start Windows.
      The following message has been recorded in the Event Viewer.

      Type Error
      Event ID 7022
      User N/A
      Description Background Intelligent Transfer Service has no response when starting the computer.


    User can use the network device Unconnected Network to connect to the Internet when logging on Windows, and disconnect the Internet when updating the computer. If so, the next time user starts the computer, the Windows Update issue described above will be encountered.

    Please refer to the steps below to disable Windows Automatic Updates.
    1. Click StartMy ComputerProperties.

    2. On the System Properties, click the Automatic Updates tab.

    3. Check Turn off Automatic Updates.
      If the above window doesn't appear, please dieselect Always update the computer to the latest version.

    4. Click OK.

    Please restart the computer in Safe Mode to disable all the services related with Windows Automatic Updates.

    2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    3. Click Performance and Maintenance.

    4. Click Administrative Tools.

    5. Double-click the Services icon.

    6. Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service in the right page.

    7. On the General tab, click Startup Type Manual or Disabled.

    8. Click OK to close the dialog box Background Intelligent Transfer Service Properties.

    9. Close all the windows.
