I can't update to the latest firmware version (Xperia Ear Duo)

You may experience that the firmware update of the Xperia Ear Duo doesn't start, although there is a new firmware version available.

Try these methods one after the other. Verify whether the problem was solved after each method, before trying the next one.

  • Make sure that the latest version of the Xperia Ear Duo app is installed on your Android device. If it's not installed, install it from Google Play Store or App Store.
  • Place the main units in the charging case, and let them charge for 5 seconds.
  • Remove the main units from the charging case, and put on the main units on your ears.
  • Launch the Xperia Ear Duo app and make sure Connected appears in the app.
  • In the app, tap the menu button (three vertical dots) > About. Check the firmware version.
  • If the left main unit's firmware version is set as Unknown, turn on the left main unit by touching and holding its touchpad.
    • If you hear a sound when tapping the touchpad, the unit is on. If you're not using the latest firmware, a firmware update screen appears. Follow its instructions.
    • If you don't hear a sound, follow the instructions under A.

A. No sound is heard when tapping the touchpad

  • Put the main units in the charging case, and let them charge for 5 seconds.
  • Check if the LED indicator of the main units lights up. If the LED is red, continue charging until the LED turns orange or green.
    • If a LED doesn't light up at all, follow the instructions under B.
    • If a LED lights up in red and then almost immediately turns off, follow the instructions under C.
  • Remove the main units from the charging case.
  • If the LEDs of the main units flash twice in white, the Xperia Ear Duo is on. If you're not using the latest firmware, a firmware update screen appears. Follow its instructions.
    • If a LED doesn't flash twice in white, follow the instructions under D.

B. A LED doesn't light up when you charge the main units

  • If a LED doesn't light up during charging, restart the main unit.
  • If the LED of the main units flash twice in white, the Xperia Ear Duo is on. If you're not using the latest firmware, a firmware update screen appears. Follow its instructions.
    • If a LED doesn't flash twice in white, follow the instructions under E.

C. When you charge the main units, a LED lights up in red and then almost immediately turns off

  1. Remove the main units from the charging case.
  2. Put the main units back in the charging case.
  • If the LED lights up, go to step 3.
  • If the LED doesn't light up, repeat the instructions from step 1.
  • If you have repeated steps 1 and 2 above 10 times, and the LED still doesn't light up, follow the instructions under E.
  1. Try charging the main units until the LEDs turn orange or green.
  2. Remove the main units from the charging case.
  3. If the LEDs of the main units flash twice in white, the Xperia Ear Duo is on. If you're not using the latest firmware, a firmware update screen appears. Follow its instructions.
    • If a LED doesn't flash twice in white, follow the instructions under D.

D. After having charged the main units, they don't respond

  • If the LEDs of the main units don't flash twice in white, after you have charged the main units and removed them from the charging case, restart the main units. If restarting doesn't make the LEDs flash twice in white, follow the instructions under E.
  • If the LEDs of the main units flash twice in white, the Xperia Ear Duo is on. If you're not using the latest firmware, a firmware update screen appears. Follow its instructions.

E. If none of the methods above solved the problem, follow these steps

Try these methods one after the other. Verify whether the problem was solved after each method, before trying the next one.

  • Turn off Bluetooth in your phone or tablet, and then turn it back on again.
  • Restart the right main unit and then pair and connect the Xperia Ear Duo to your device.
  • Android devices only: Force close the Xperia Ear Duo App using Settings > Apps & notifications > App info > Xperia Ear Duo > FORCE STOP.
  • Restart your phone or tablet.
  • Uninstall the Xperia Ear Duo app and then install it again from Google Play Store or App Store.
  • If these actions didn't solve the problem, contact us.
