Under certain circumstances, when the BRAVIA® Sync feature is activated on both your Sony television and your STR-DG820 A/V Receiver or the HDMI control feature is activated on a non-Sony television, the volume level may suddenly increase above the maximum level on your receiver; otherwise, this issue does not affect the overall usability of your receiver.
This issue is caused by a problem with the receiver’s firmware. In order to address this issue, you need to send your receiver in to Sony for a firmware update.
To ensure customer satisfaction, Sony will provide a free repair service when this symptom occurs within certain units covered by the serial numbers indicated in the serial number validation box below.

Please contact your nearest Sony Service Center for assistance. If Sony determines that you have one of the affected units, we will update your receiver’s firmware free of charge.
- If you choose not to update your receiver, we recommend that you do not activate the BRAVIA Sync or HDMI control feature on your receiver or, if you have activated it, that you turn this feature off.
- The repair process will reset the receiver back to the original settings. It is recommended that you make note of all desired customized settings before requesting the repair.
