I bought this lens to try out portrait photography. Didn't expect an 85mm can give me so much of different perspectives. 85mm F1.8 and such a light lens. Image quality is superb plus it's affordability.

Great lens for portraits. Bokeh quite good even from a distance. Only issue some people may not like some cats eye bokeh but it looks fine to me.

My favorite lens for street and wedding photography

Excellent image quality. Good autofocus performance. I prefer smaller and lighter lenses and this lens fits my needs. Would have like a few more controls on the lens, but for the price, can hardly complain. Easy recommendation.

One of the most affordable and sharpest lens ever.

I only purchased my Sony lens just over a week ago so I haunt yet had an opportunity to test it extensively. However, so far, it has produced pin sharp images, is light and compact and complements my Sony S7C II camera perfectly.

It’s a decent lens and the weight is good. But boy do you have to watch out for CA. Which is absolutely abysmal with this lens. It’s generally overpriced imo. First party you don’t have too many options.

I bought this to serve as a portrait lens for my alpha 6400, a handy camera for everyday photography. Good performance, light and easy to use.

I'm basically a wide angle guy, so when I got the new A7cII, I went with the 24 GM. But still, ya gotta have SOMETHING tele and I wanted something light, unobtrusive and fast handling. This is perfect, and the image quality is terrific. I'd get it again. No question.

Absolutely designed for head shots. The lens automatically priorities auto focusing on peoples eyes in extreme detail at high speed which makes beautiful images. The bokeh is sooth and automatic. Worth every penny and highly recommend

Sharp, light, tight. Great value, responsive, what's not to like?

Whilst all the publicity and lens reviews attention seems to be on the faster f1.4 lenses for the Sony FE Alpha system, this f1.8 lens is a gem and much more easy to handle due to its compact size and low weight when moving around taking portrait, sports or street photographs. The difference between f1.4 and f1.8 isn't that significant with modern camera sensors that can handle low light situations, whilst the images captured are very similar, so Sony is to be applauded for keeping an f1.8 85mm lens in its range - it would be great if it does the same for all its lenses (pro 1.8 versions of all its key focal lengths) as an original reason for going mirror-less was to save weight and size.

I found that with this lens taking landscapes the picture was really sharp. Also I realised I had to think what the subject of the photo was and so it has helped improve the look of the finished picture.

After moving to Sony from Nikon Z, this FE85mm lens was my first purchase and boy oh boy its pin sharp, along with the surperb eye AF on Sony cameras its a win win. Nice weight to the lens and the focus hold button can be reprogrammed for whatever you want ( i changed it to eye AF ) Fantastic weight, fantastic sharpness, fantastic price.. 10/10

Bought this lens few months back. Have been using it for quite some time now. Super affordable and produces amazing image quality.

Great picture quality but poor minimum focusing distance.

My first "portrait" lens. At 85mm, allows me to take close photos without being close. The lens is superb for a standard product (non G, GM or GM2); sharp, focus speed isn't lightning but fast enough to keep up with kids skating around. Had my best grandkids at play photos.

I love this lens, light weight good quality for both build and images. perfect for portraiture. I recommend this lens for portrait also street photography. I feel Auto focus is little bit slow at night time but it work fine if under good ambient light.

Back then portrait lenses with this speed are expensive, so this is my first time ever to get my own 50mm, this lens is very good for the price, though quality still little bit stay behind compare to f1.2 or 1.0, specific cases like need some post work to get rid the purple lines and green lines in the photo, of using 1.8 wide, otherwise this is a serious lens

barely used no more than 10 times, suddenly lens totally out of order, cannot focus, camera cannot turn off once lens on, and it's exactly passed 1 year warranty.

This is one of the light weight and compact portrait lens in the market. Don’t be fool by the size and the price of this lens. The images quality are excellent. This lens is always in my camera bag. Attached are some images taken by this lens. All images shot at wide open. Look at the sharpness, 3D pop and the background rendering. It is amazing.

I brought this lens 3 weeks ago and have used it on three jobs now, I can say the quality is incredible, both optically and build.

First Lens i bought (apart from kit lens) because i wanted something Sony, with awesome Bokeh, to shoot portrait and at a relatively low price. I really enjoy learning how to take photos with this lens on my APSC A6400. Whilst learning i also realised i like to take videos as well. Wish this lens had oss!

A great addition to the collection; nice clean bokeh, acceptable build quality all things considered, not too heavy, and does not take up too much space in the gear bag.

I was satisfied using lenses/ but unfortunally my all Sony equipment and lens were stolen. This FE 85mm F1.8 has serial number: S013054149C To my suprise, unfortunate that unlike other cameras brands, Sony does not support the search function by image and serial number. What would make it much more difficult to use stolen equipment

Buying this lens for 2nd time. Exchanged the first one for a 90mm Macro and while the 90mm is a superb macro lens, the bokeh for portraiture can't match the 85mm f1.8 The lens is so compact and super sharp and a joy to use for street photography where you get to maintain your distance and still shot your subject.

Excellent premium build portrait lens. This would have been a G lens if it had an aperture ring.

Focus speed and bokeh comparable g master. Weight was way lighter than g master. Only con is the weather seal and paint tooeasy scratch

the lens is good value for money and it is really suitable for A 9 camera, great results, with quick focus.

I love my new 85mm lens, it looks heavy, but it's surprisingly light, my images come out sharp and vibrant in color. It's a great lens for portraits, and when I took it to a car show, my images came out almost magazine like quality. Works great with my a7iv
