Download and Installation Instructions for USB Driver

* Please ensure that the Handycam is NOT connected to the computer.

To download and install the USB driver, please follow the steps below:

1. Click the Download button to download the USBDRVEN.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
   
   
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the USBDRVEN.EXE file to begin the installation.
   
   
3. Open the Sony_usb folder that was created in the same directory to which the USBDRVEN.EXE file was downloaded. Double-click the Setup.exe file.
   
   
4. At the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Sony USB Driver screen, click the Next button.
   
   
5. At the Information screen, click the Next button. Please wait for awhile as the files are installed.
   
   
6. At the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen, verify that Yes, I want to restart my computer now. is selected and click the Finish button. After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony® USB Driver is completed.

Instructions for Special Procedures AFTER installing the USB Driver for Windows 2000 Operating System

1. Connect the Handycam to the computer with the supplied cable via the USB port.
2. Insert a Memory Stick into the Handycam and turn ON the Handycam.
3. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel and System.
4. At the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab and the Device Manager button.
5. Scroll down the list of devices, and double-click the Universal Serial BUS controllers entry to expand it.
6. Click to highlight the device entry marked with a (!). (For example: (!)DCR-PC110). Double-click the device enter its Properties.
7. Click the Driver tab. Click the Update Driver button, the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard will start. Click the Next button to proceed.
8. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and then click Next.
9. At the Locate Driver Files screen, do not make any optional location changes and click Next.
      Note: The driver (c:\winnt\inf\oem1.inf) will be found. The number, in this case 1, after "OEM" varies depending on the configuration. (e.g. "oem1", "oem5"). Please take note of this file name because it will be used later in the process.
10. Select Install one of the other drivers and then click Next. Two drivers will appear.
11. Under Location, select c:\winnt\inf\sonypvu1.inf. The device is recognized and the driver is automatically installed.
12. At the Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard screen, click Finish. Close all the open windows.
      Note: If prompted, restart the computer. To prevent the incorrect driver from being installed when another USB port is used, it is now necessary to delete the old Windows 98/98SE driver on the computer.
13. Click the My Computer icon. From the Tools menu, click Folder Options. At the Folder Options window, click the View tab. Under Advanced Settings, select Show hidden files and folders
      Note: If the Hide file extensions for known file types is checked, click to remove the checkmark from the box.
14. Click OK to close the Folder Options window.
15. At the My Computer window, click the Local Disk (C:) icon. Click the WINNT folder.
    Note: If no files or folder are showing., click the ShowFiles link.
16. Click the Inf folder. Right-click on the oem1.inf file and click Delete.
      Note: The number in the file name may vary. Please refer to the file name noted in Step 12 above for the appropriate name.
    At the Confirm File Delete box, click Yes.
17. Right-click on the oem1.pnf file and click Delete.
18. At the Confirm File Delete box, click Yes.
19. Click the system32 folder.
      Note: If no files or folders are showing, click the ShowFiles link.
20. Right-click on the sonysys.sys file and click Delete.
21. At the Confirm File Delete box, click Yes.
22. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the system32 window.
23. The process is now completed.

IMPORTANT: If the originally supplied Windows 98/98SE drivers with the following Handycam model is installed onto a computer running on Windows ME Operating System, it is important to ensure that special procedures (below) is performed BEFORE installing the USB driver. Otherwise, please proceed to download the USB driver and follow the Download and Installation Instructions for USB Driver listed above.

Instructions for Special Procedures BEFORE installing the USB Driver for Windows ME Operating System
1. Connect the Handycam to the computer with the supplied cable via the USB port.

2. Insert a Memory Stick into the Handycam and turn ON the Handycam.

3. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, and System. Click the Device Manager.

4. Scroll down the list of devices, and double-click the Disk drives entry to expand it.

5. Click to highlight the Sony Removable Disk or SONYUCAM Sony DSC Disk entry and click then Remove.
At the Confirm Device Removal box, click OK.
Important: DO NOT restart the computer.

6. Repeat Steps 4 to 5 to delete the following entries in order.
    a. Under "Hard disk controllers", delete "Sony USB Device Driver."
    b. Under "Universal Serial BUS controllers", delete "Sony USB Mass Storage Class Driver."

7. Disconnect the Handycam from the computer.

8. To change the computer folder view settings to display hidden files and folders, please follow the steps below:
Double-click the My Computer icon. Click View (or Tools) and Folder Options. Click View. Under Advanced Settings, select Show all hidden files and folders.
Note: If the Hide file extensions for known file types is checked, click to remove the checkmark from the box.
Click OK to close the Folder Options window.
Click the X button in the top-right corner to close the My Computer window.

9. Click Start, Search and Files or Folders...

10. At the Find: All Files window, in the Named: field, entersonysys camdisk.
Note: There is a space between sonysys and camdisk.

11. In the Look in: drop-down menu, select Local Disk (C:). Click the Search Now button.

12. Once the Search is complete, right-click on the SONYSYS.SYS file and select Delete from the menu. At the Confirm File Delete box, click Yes.

13. Repeat the process to delete the following files:
* CAMDISK.PDR
* Sony CorporationSONYSYS.INF
* Sony CorporationCAMDISK.INF
Note: Please ensure only the above-mentioned files are deleted. Do not delete any other folders.

14. Disconnect the Handycam from the computer.

15. Restart the computer.
