Applicable ModelsMSAC-US1 Overview procedures before the updating of program: 1. Confirm that the USB driver Version 5.0 is installed. Note: The update will not be carried out in other program version. * To confirm the program version, please see Check the program version below. 2. Confirm that the product is recognized as a removable disk and the data in the disk can be accessed. To check the program version: 1. Confirm the product is connected to the computer properly. 2. Click Start, point to Settingsand click Control Panel 3. Double-click on System icon. System Properties will appears. 4. Select the Device Manager tab, and double-click on Universal serial bus controller 5. Double-click on Sony USB Mass Storage Class Driver, select the Driver tab, and click Driver File Details... 6. Confirm C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SONYSYS.SYS is selected. (See Figure 1.) 7. Confirm the File version is 5.0.0113.0. The program version to be updated is 5.0.0113.0. 8. Click OKafter confirming the version. Extract the compressed file: 1. Prepare a formatted floppy disk and set it to the floppy disk drive of the computer. 2. Double-click on the usbdrv52e.exe icon, the dialog box will appear. 3. Confirm a:\ is indicated in the Extract Directory text box, and click OK. The file will be extracted to the floppy disk. Update the driver: 1. Disconnect the product from the computer 2. Double-click on usbdrv50.exe icon in the floppy disk to execute the program. 3. The message Driver was installed successfully will appears. 4. Connect the product to the computer properly. 5. Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties. 6. Select the Device Manager tab. (See Figure 2.) 7. Double-click on Hard disk controllers, and remove Sony USB Device Driver. 8. Double-click on Universal serial bus controller, and remove Sony USB Mass Storage Class Driver. 9. Click Refresh 10. The device is recognized and the driver is automatically installed. Note: a. This update program is for Windows® 98 and Windows® 98SE b. The update of the driver cannot be carried out unless the USB driver Version 5.0 is installed. The message Driver is not installed, or not proper version appears: * when the USB driver is not installed. * when the USB driver Version 1.9 (for DSC-F505) is installed. (To update from Version 1.9 to Version 5.0, please install the driver for Windows® 98SE). c. Make sure the Memory Stick is in the product. d. If using two or more USB ports in Windows® 98, follow Step Four through Step Ten for each USB port. (It is not necessary for Windows® 98SE) e. Follow the steps above insequence. For example, if jump to Step Eight before Step Seven, it will not be able to do Step Seven. f. If there are two or more applicable products, the update needs to be carried out for each product. |

Applicable ModelsMSAC-US1 Symptoms: When installing the Windows® 98 driver in Windows® 2000 Found New Hardware Wizard starts up. If continue the installation process, the following error message appears in the end of the wizard. ======================================================================= An error occurred during the installation of the device. The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance. ======================================================================= The USB driver (SONYSYS) and storage driver (CAMDISK) should be installed, but SONYSYS fails to be installed, and the installation is discontinued. After installing the Windows® 98 driver in Windows® 2000: The Universal Serial Bus controllers from Device Manager in System Properties, there is a ! mark on the product name such as Sony DSC, which means the product is not properly recognized as a device. The description in Properties of the product is as follows: ============================================== This drivers for this device are not installed.Code 28 To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver ============================================== This symptom cannot be corrected even when disconnect and connect the cable again. Procedure: 1. Install the Windows® 2000 driver Follow the instructions on another file W2000USB to install the Windows® 2000 driver. 2. Change the driver information (Windows® 98 to Windows® 2000) Note: Make sure the followings items are done before the steps are carry out . * The product is turned on. * The Memory Stick is in the product. * The product is connected to the computer with the USB cable. a. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties b. System Properties appears. c. Open the Hardware tab. d. Click Device Manager... e. Device Manager appears. f. Open Universal Serial Bus controllers g. The product name with a (!) mark is found. For example, (!)DSC-F505 h. Open Properties of the product name. i. Open the General tab. j. Click Reinstall Driver... k. Upgrade Device Driver Wizard starts up. l. Click Next m. Mark Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) n. Click Next o. Click Next without changing a place to search for the driver. p. The driver is searched and oem0.inf is found. The number after oem varies depending on the configuration. For example, oem1, oem5 Take a note of this file name because it will be used afterwards. q. Mark Install one of the other drivers at the bottom of the window. r. Click Next s. Two drivers appear. t. Select sonypvu1.inf which appears in Location u. Click Next v. The device is recognized and the driver is automatically installed. w. Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard will appears. x. Click Finish 3. Remove the Windows® 98 driver To prevent the Windows® 98 driver from being used when another product is connected, the Windows® 98 driver is needed to remove. a. Open Explorer b. Select Tools, and click Folder Options... c. Click the View tab. d. Mark Show hidden files and folders e. Delete the mark on Hide file extensions for known file types f. Click OK g. Open c:\winnt\inf\ h. Delete oem0.inf and oem0.pnf (the file taken a note in the Step b. to Step p.) i. Open c:\winnt\system32\ j. Delete sonysys.sys 4. If users have connect to two or more products The following procedure needs to be done for each product except the one for which had done Step One through Step Three. For example, if connected to both F505 and US1 to the computer after trying to install the Windows® 98 driver (if there is a (!) mark on each product in Universal Serial Bus controllers), there is a need to do Step One through Step Three for F505, and Step Four for US1. a. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties b. System Properties will appears. c. Open the Hardware tab. d. Click the Device Manager... e. Device Manager will appears. f. Open Universal Serial Bus controllers g. The product name with a (!) mark is found. For example, (!)DSC-F505 h. Open Properties of the product name. i. Open the General tab. j. Click the Reinstall Driver... k. Upgrade Device Driver Wizard starts up. l. Click Next m. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) n. Click Next o. Click Next without changing a place to search for the driver. p. The driver is searched and sonypvu1.inf is found. q. Click Next r. The device is recognized and the driver is automatically installed. s. Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard appears. t. Click Finish * The difference between Step Two and Step Four is the driver search in Step p. The Windows® 2000 driver is found in Step Four because the Windows® 98 driver is already removed. |
