The function on the right shows battery performance (indicating when it’s time to replace the battery). Charging capacity falls due to the duration of use. The charging performance of the battery changes from Good to Fair, Poor, or Critical. A battery should be replaced when its charging performance is Poor. |

If a degraded battery is continuously used, inner parts may deteriorate, possibly affecting safe use. Therefore, changing to a new battery is recommended.

Battery degradation can be slowed by limiting battery charge up to 80% of capacity. This function extends the battery life approximately 1.5 times* longer. |
 |
 |
|
 |
| Battery life will be about 20% shorter than a fully charged battery. However, this mode slows battery degradation and is effective if you usually use the computer with the battery. |

• Do not expose battery pack and notebook PC to high temperatures.
• Unplug the AC adapter if you are not using VAIO for an extended period. |
 |
|
|
 |
• When a battery pack may be unused for more than one month, use approximately 50% charging capacity. Remove the battery from VAIO and keep it in a cool, dark place with low humidity.
• Keep a battery in a safe place to prevent damage and shock.
• Every six months, charge a battery to approximately 50% capacity to prevent excess discharge.
• When storing a battery, put it in a plastic bag to prevent battery short out. Then, position battery packs to avoid overlap and place in a non-conductive container, such as a cardboard box. |

Depending on your usage, VAIO recommends using the Battery Care Function in the floating window (shown below). This indicates battery degradation, so you can use your battery longer. The floating window is automatically displayed as the default setting, but it can also be hidden from view.

| Good (green) |
The charging performance of the battery is good.
The charging performance of the battery deteriorates little by little due to factors such as the number of charges and usage period. Efficient use can extend the battery life. |
Battery charging performance is good. |
| Fair (green) |
The charging performance of the battery has begun to deteriorate
The charging performance of the battery deteriorates little by little due to factors such as the number of charges and usage period. Efficient use can extend the battery life. |
The charging performance of the battery has begun to deteriorate. |
| Poor (yellow) |
The charging performance of the battery has deteriorated.
The charging performance of the battery deteriorates due to factors such as the number of charges and usage period. We recommend replacing the battery with a new one. |
The charging performance of the battery has deteriorated. |
| Critical (red) |
Replace the battery with a new one.
The charging performance of the battery has deteriorated significantly compared with time of purchase. Replace the battery with a new one. |
