Singapore, April 20, 2011 – Building on its commitment to the video security and surveillance market, Sony is adding six new compact PTZ and Rapid Dome models to its line-up – the SNC-EP550, SNC-EP580, SNC-ER550 and SNC-ER580 high definition cameras; and SNC-EP520/521 and SNC-ER520/521 standard definition cameras. The new models expand Sony’s PTZ and Rapid Dome line-up to 17, strengthening its product offering in the IP market.
The PTZ and Rapid Dome EP/ER550 and EP/ER580 variants deliver unparalleled 720p and 1080p HD resolution thanks to Sony’s exclusive Exmor™ CMOS sensor, which enables high quality and low noise images. On the other hand, Sony is also offering PTZ and Rapid Domes variant EP/ER520/521cameras in standard definition. Combined with Wide-D technology and optical day/night function, these cameras capture exceptional detail in virtually any lighting— enabling these cameras to keep a watchful eye on critical surveillance areas in day or night.
Unlike conventional motion detection technology, which typically detects luminance level differences, Sony’s DEPA (Distributed Enhanced Processing Architecture) technology utilises 15 frames to accurately determine motion detection information, reducing false alarms. This revolutionary technology ensures that a detailed image of movement is captured in whatever condition - day or night, rain or shine. Sony’s intelligent motion detection has sophisticated algorithms, configurable to suit all types of security requirements.
Sony’s PTZ (EP series) cameras are equipped with PTZ mechanism featuring full 340-degree panning angle and 300 degrees per second pan and tilt speeds. The equally high-speed Rapid Dome (ER series) cameras offer a full 360 degrees of endless panning and 210-degree tilt. With broad all-encompassing panoramic view surveillance, there is less risk of suspicious activities going unnoticed or blind spots.
With 20x (ER580 and EP580), 28x (ER550 and EP550), and powerful 36x optical zoom (EP520/21 and ER520/ER521), it is now easier to focus in on problem areas rapidly in real time and in precise detail.

Dual-streaming lets users stream video in two formats at different compression rates, useful for meeting different bandwidth needs. By setting one HD stream for local viewing and storage, and one VGA stream for real time remote viewing, users can monitor their property from literally anywhere with Internet access.
“Sony’s intelligent PTZ and Rapid Dome cameras are designed to identify risks and threats in high speed and ultimate precision for the protection of people, property and products,” said Yoshikazu Hirano, General Manager for Security Solutions Asia Pacific, Professional Solutions Company (PSAP), Sony Electronics Asia-Pacific.
“The new PTZ and Rapid Dome cameras offer superb imaging and coverage, and thanks to all the technology we’ve built into them, they are some of the most powerful IP security cameras available.”
Equipped with Edge storage technology, the cameras come with an on-board SD memory card slot. With a 32GB SD card, a maximum of 8 hours footage at 1080P HD resolution can be recorded.
The cameras feature compact designs that blend in with any interior or exterior décor, and conform to ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) Version 1.02 standards for maximum compatibility with a wide range of security platforms.
The new models will be launched at Secutech 2011, Taiwan’s largest electronic security exhibition, taking place from April 20 – 22, 2011 at the Nangang Taipei World Trade Centre in Taipei, Taiwan. These new products along with Sony’s full range of HD cameras can be found at booth K808-K813.
