  • Q1. What is the difference between an alkaline, a carbon zinc and nickel metal hydride battery?
    A. 1.5V alkaline and carbon zinc batteries cannot be recharged while a 1.2V nickel metal hydride battery is rechargeable.
  • Q2. What is the difference between an alkaline and a carbon zinc battery?
    A. Depending on operating conditions and specifications of devices, generally, alkaline batteries last 2 times longer than carbon zinc batteries.
  • Q3. Can I use one type of battery for all types of devices?
    A. For optimal battery performance on your devices, pls use the type of batteries which we recommend. Alternatively, please refer to the operating manuals of your devices.
  • Q4. Can I use 1.2V rechargeable batteries on devices that usually use 1.5V non-rechargeable batteries?
    A. It depends on individual devices. Please refer to the manual of each respective device.
  • Q5. What type of NI-MH batteries can I charge using a Sony Battery Charger?
    A. Only Sony rechargeable NI-MH, AA and AAA-size batteries are compatible with a Sony Battery Charger.
  • Q6. My Sony NI-MH battery has some scratches on it. Can I remove the battery jacket film?
    A. Do not tear off the rechargeable battery jacket film as this may cause the battery to be short-circuited, resulting in a leakage or rupture.
  • Q7. How many times can I recharge my Sony NI-MH rechargeable battery?
    A. Under ISO standard conditions, Sony NI-MH rechargeable batteries can be charged about 500 times. This is dependent on operating conditions and specifications of devices.
  • Q8. Can I charge AA and AAA-size NI-MH rechargeable batteries together on a Sony Battery Charger?
    A. Yes. A Sony Battery charger can hold from 1 to 4 AA and AAA-sized batteries.
  • Q9. If we are unsure about the residual energy level of the rechargeable batteries, can we charge them together?
    A. Yes, you can.
  • Q10. The energy lifespan of my Sony NI-MH rechargeable batteries is getting shorter between each charge. What should I do?
    A. You can repeat the charging process for 2 to 3 times. Or if you have a Sony Super Quick Charger with refresh function, please refresh your batteries before charging them. Otherwise, it is time to replace your Sony Sony NI-MH rechargeable batteries if the battery energy level does not improve.
  • Q11. Do Sony NI-MH rechargeable batteries carry an expiry date?
    A. Sony NI-MH rechargeable batteries do not carry a sell-by date. And they can be charged repeatedly under ISO standard conditions, depending on operating conditions and specifications of respective devices. Likewise, there is no expiry date for a Sony Battery Charger.
  • Q12. My Sony NI-MH rechargeable battery turns hot after charging, can it be used immediately?
    A. It is common for NI-MH batteries to turn hot during the charging process. But it is recommended that the batteries be allowed to cool down before usage.
  • Q13. What is the Refresh Function of the Sony Charger?
    A. The Refresh Function is a function that will eliminate the "Memory Effect" left over by a rechargeable battery that has been charged without first being fully discharged.
  • Q14. What is Memory Effect of a rechargeable battery?
    A. It is the temporary voltage depletion caused by charging and discharging the battery without it first being fully discharged, thus resulting in the poor performance of your battery.
  • Q15. How often do I need to refresh my rechargeable batteries?
    A. It depends on the usage pattern or refresh when you notice poor performance of the rechargeable batteries.

    A. Refreshing time depends on remaining battery capacity.
  • Q17. Can I keep my Sony Battery Charger plugged in all the time so that I can charge my batteries anytime I want?
    A. No. Please unplug your Sony Battery Charger from the AC outlet when not in use.
  • Q18. What are the safety features available on a Sony Battery Charger?

    1. Safety Timer - A timer which terminates the charging process within a certain time period in order to avoid over-charging.
    2. Temperature Monitoring Function - If the battery temperature becomes too high during the charging process, the current will be cut off to allow the battery to cool down.
    3. Primary Battery detection - Charging will not occur if non rechargeable batteries are inserted into a Sony Battery Charger.

    A. Selected range of Sony Super Quick and the full range of Power chargers can be used anywhere in the world (100V to 240V). Please use an AC adaptor that is applicable for the country that you are in.
