D8
Metal technology in an 8mm data cartridge
A culmination of Sony's metal technology, the D8 provides the stability and reliability required by 8mm data cartridges. The QG series incorporates a number of special developments for 8mm Data Cartridges, from improved magnetic metal to the tape, cartridge and hard case. The QGD160MBA model embodies superb archival performance and enhanced reliability even down to its smallest components, such as the magnetic particles and binder.
High quality metal tape
Strong High Density Alloy (HDA) magnetic particles are protected by a dense, uniform oxide layer that provides a high level of data integrity for stable, long-term use. The strong cross-linkage construction and High Cross-Linkage (HCL) binder system is improved with unique additive. Additionally, the HR135 back coating sustains tape transport through the 8mm's complex tape transport mechanism and playback modes.
High-functional shell helps reliability
The D8's airtight construction with electrostatic-proof material prevents the penetration of dust and other foreign materials, and a heat-resistant resin helps to protect the shell.
Cartridge case protects against accidents
Highly durable polypropylene material reduces the chance of cracks and chips on the cartridge case, and the round-edge construction is designed to soften external shocks resulting from accidental falls.
Media Recognition System (MRS)
The QGD160MBA model's splicing tape has vertical stripes for quick capacity recognition by the drive's laser. The MRS also confirms that the correct media format is being used in the drive.
