AIT
AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) Data Cartridge Fifth generation AIT technology packs 1.04 TB (compressed) into a tiny cartridge
AIT-5 format 400GB/1.04GB massive capacity
Design for the new AIT-5 format, the SDX5-400C and AIT-5 WORM format, SDX5-400W cartridge offers a massive 400GB native capacity, 1040GB compressed capacity. Transfer rate is an ultra-fast 24MB/s native when using an AIT-5 drive.
AIT family offers versatile solutions
Scalable AIT format:
- Compressed capacities from 65GB to 1.04TB (25GB to 400GB native)
- Write-once read-many solution available. Sony offers a full line of AIT products, widely used by government agencies, the financial industry and others worldwide.
Ever-innovating tape technologies
Sony is committed to ceaseless innovation for our media tapes. In AIT-5, we employ the use of Dynamic Tracking, GMR Head and AME III to tremendously improve the performance, capacity and reliability, giving least room for errors.
Proven Technology: AME, AME II and AME III
In the AIT format, Sony has applied advanced technologies refined and proven over many years. Since the format's debut in 1996, AIT has employed AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated) tape, and received high acclaim from data storage professionals for the outstanding reliability of its technology.
AME III, the latest breakthrough in AME technologies, is engineered in the latest AIT-5, where AME II was developed for AIT 4.
AME III enables AIT-5 media's extraordinary areal recording density as well as its high durability. AME III uses a new method of applying the magnetic layer to the tape, an enforced coating layer, and newly developed lubricant for stable operation. AME III realizes high output and low noise through resulting in smaller magnetic particles and the newly developed back coating reduces guide friction and further improves its reliability.
Path to the AIT future
Sony has already achieved area data density of 11.5Gbpsi in the laboratory. For the AIT format, this translates into 2TB capacity per media package. The AIT format's migration path is built on this kind of ongoing innovation.
