184-minute digital video recording

It's 7.0µm thick and a fraction over 6mm wide, yet capable of 184 minutes of digital video recording. Sony's advanced evaporated tape makes it possible with a pure cobalt evaporated coating for packing at high-density, which gives 4.5dB higher output than consumer Hi8 evaporated tape.

DLC protective layer for extra durability

Sony's DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) protective layer on the tape surface gives PDV series cassettes the durability demanded in professional applications. This wear resistance is critical, particularly for editing and still-mode play.

High dimensional precision for compatibility

Precision compatibility is essential in a pro-format videocassette. Therefore, Sony uses an ultra-accurate slitting machine to assure correct tape width and a special process to reduce tape-shrinkage over time to about 1/2 that of consumer DV tape.

Two-model line-up for selected use

The PDV(M)-ME Series features a 16 kilobit IC Memory for instant read-out of photo index and recording data. Use with an IC Memory compatible editing unit ensures efficient editing operations. In addition, the line-up newly includes the PDV(M)-N Series without IC Memory. Please select models according to the application intended.

New case specially designed for DVCAM use

The interior of the case has been designed with consideration for DVCAM's mobility, with a reel placement construction for firm strengthening and a new side lock to prevent accidental opening during transport. In the mini-cassette cases internal cushioning adds extra safety for news gatheringand possible mishandling.
