Installation Steps
Check the Current Firmware Version

  1. Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the MHL input to which the BRAVIA Smart Stick is connected.
  2. Wait until the Home menu is displayed on the television before proceeding.
  3. Use the arrows and ENTER keys on the remote control to select "All Apps", "Settings", "About", and then press the ENTER button.
  4. The version of firmware installed on your device is shown as the "Build number", and has a format as shown below.
     

Near the end of the build number, just before "_URSC", will be an eight digit number format (YYYY/MM/DD) which indicates the date of when the firmware was created. If the release date on your device is older than the release date of the latest firmware, an update is available.

Firmware Upgrade Instructions
The NSZ-GU1 BRAVIA Smart Stick firmware can only be upgraded by performing a Network Upgrade.

Important Notes

  • If you have not done so already, please check the current firmware version to determine if this firmware upgrade is needed for your BRAVIA Smart Stick.
  • WARNING!! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the BRAVIA Smart Stick to be unresponsive or to require repair.
  • WARNING!! Do not power off the TV or disconnect BRAVIA Smart Stick from the MHL port. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the BRAVIA Smart Stick to be unresponsive or to require repair.
  • In order to perform the network upgrade it is necessary to have the BRAVIA Smart Stick correctly connected to an active Internet connection.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Network Upgrade Instructions

WARNING!! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the BRAVIA Smart Stick to be unresponsive or to require repair.
Note: The firmware upgrade process usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on system configuration and network connection.

  1. Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the MHL input to which the BRAVIA Smart Stick is connected.
  2. Wait until the Home menu is displayed on the television before proceeding.
  3. At the Home menu screen, use the arrows and ENTER keys on the remote control to select "All Apps", "Settings", "About", "System updates", and then press the ENTER button.


  4. Select “Update”, and then press ENTER.


    Note: If the message says "The system software is up to date", your BRAVIA Smart Stick has the latest firmware. If a firmware version is shown, an update is available.
  5. Please read the "End user license agreement". If you can agree, please select "Accept", and then press ENTER.



    Please wait until the download step is completed. The download time may vary depending on network bandwidth.


  6. After the download step is completed, the upgrade confirmation dialog will display.


  7. Select “Restart to install”, and then press ENTER to begin the installation.
  8. The BRAVIA Smart Stick will automatically power off and begin the installation process.

    WARNING!! Do not operate BRAVIA Smart Stick or turn off the power of television until the update is completed. Doing so may cause the BRAVIA Smart Stick to be unresponsive or to require repair.
     

  9. The BRAVIA Smart Stick will automatically power on after the upgrade is complete and the upgrade completion dialog box will display on the television. Make sure “OK” is selected, and then press the ENTER button.
  10. Check the current firmware version to confirm that the upgrade has successfully installed.
