IMPORTANT: Before proceeding with the upgrade, disconnect all external hardware devices, including PC Cards etc
Note: Before proceeding, ensure that the VAIO computer is operated using the supplied AC adapter.
Note: Save all data/files and close all running programs

Please note that when installing either of the Windows XP versions, users may no longer have access to some preinstalled software or will not be able to use some of preinstalled functions.
Below are the functions that are confirmed to be unusable once users downgrade to Windows XP on VGN-SR1 Series:
  1.HDD Protection function cannot be used. 
  2.Fn+F9/Fn+F10 function cannot be used. 
  3.After switching off Bluetooth device/Wireless LAN device via Wireless Switch Setting Utility, the Bluetooth device/Wireless LAN device cannot be powered on again via Wireless Switch Setting Utility. Users must manually switch Wireless Device H/W Control button to power on Bluetooth device/Wireless LAN device again.

Windows XP Drivers for  VGN-SR1 Series

SATA driver
If the supplied XP installation disc is used to change the current Operating System to Windows XP Pro (This disc is only bundled with preinstalled Windows Vista Business models.), this driver need not be installed. Otherwise, proceed as below:
1. Find one external floppy disk drive and connect with the unit.
2. Insert a blank formatted floppy disk into the external floppy disk drive, and unzip the downloaded zip file.
3. Copy these 6 unzip files to the blank formatted floppy disk.
4. Start the Microsoft® Windows® Operating System setup by booting from the installation CD.
5. At the beginning of the Operating System setup, press theF6 key to install a third-party SAST or RAID driver.
6. When prompted, insert the floppy disk with the SATA driver files.
7. After reading the floppy disk, the SATA Controller will be presented. Select this driver to install (Please click PgUP button to choose Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller option). Finish the Windows® Operating System installation and install all necessary drivers.

SATA Driver register
1. Download the SATA_Driver_register.ZIP file to a temporary or download directory and unzip it. (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SATA_Driver_register.reg file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement.
NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Chipset Software Installation Utility
1. Download the Chipset.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Chipset.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.
NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

ATIGraphics Driver
1. Check that the current display device is ATI Graphics and proceed to download and install this driver. If the display device is Intel Graphics, skip this driver.
2. Download the Graphics-ATI.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Graphics-ATI.EXE file to begin the installation.
4. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
5. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.
NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
6. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Intel Graphics Driver
1. Check that the current display device is Intel Graphics and proceed to download and install this driver. If the display device is ATI Graphics, skip this driver..
2. Download the Graphics-Intel.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Graphics-Intel.EXE file to begin the installation.
4. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
5. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.
NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
6. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

KB835221
If the supplied XP installation disc is used to change the current Operating System to Windows XP Pro (This disc is only bundled with preinstalled Windows Vista Business models.), this driver need not be installed. Otherwise, proceed as below:
1. Download the KB835221.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the KB835221.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.
NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Audio driver
1. Download the Audio.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Audio.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.

5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Modemdriver
1. Download the Modem.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Modem.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.
NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Alps Pointing device for VAIO
1. Download the Pointing.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Pointing.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.

5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

LAN driver

Memory Stick driver
1. Download the MS-Driver.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the MS-Driver.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.

Memory Stick Hotfix
1. Download the MSIcon.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).

SD Driver

SD card Register
1. Download the SD-Driver-Register.zip file to a temporary or download directory and unzip it. (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SD-Driver-Register.reg file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.

SonyNCDevice
1. Download the SONYNC.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SONYNC.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.

TPM Driver
1. Download the TPM.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the TPM.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.

5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Bluetooth Driver
Set the H/W wireless LAN button to the ON position before installing the Bluetooth device.
1. Download the Bluetooth.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Bluetooth.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.
NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Camera Driver
1. Download the Camera.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Camera.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.

5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Fingerprint driver
1. Download the Fingerprinter.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Fingerprinter.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
4. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.

5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Atheros Wireless LAN driver
Check that the current wirelss device is Atheros Wireless LAN and proceed to download and install this driver. If the device is Intel Wireless LAN, skip this driver.
1. Execute \Wireless- Atheros.EXE.
2. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
3. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.
NOTE:

5. When the installation finishes, please restart the computer if needed.

Intel WirelessLAN driver
Check that the current wirelss device is Intel Wireless LAN and proceed to download and install this driver. If the device is Atheros Wireless LAN, skip this driver.
1. Download Microsoft MSXML 6.0 and Windows Installer 3.14 basic following URL:

2. Install these 2 hotfix on the unit.
3. Execute Wireless-Intel.EXE.
4. Follow the installation wizard that appears.
5. At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement. Click I Agree to continue with the installation.
