Adjusting the image quality and the display position when outputting images to a TV.

The adjustment of the image quality and the display position when output images to a TV varies is dependant on the types of graphics accelerators.

Note:
The following procedure is only an example for a typical model.
The design and the adjustment items in Windows may differ from models to models.
Please refer to Help in the Display Properties dialog box, and the instruction manual for more information.

* Example
Connect the VAIO computer to the TV and follow the steps below:

A. For NeoMagic NM2200 / NeoMagic NM2360 graphics accelerator

1. Right-click an empty area on the desktop and click Properties.
2. Click Settings tab and then click Advanced.
3. Click NeoMagic tab, select TV option and click Apply.
4. Click Advanced Settings and adjust the image quality and display status.
Note: The function to reset all value settings to the default is not available. Please note down the default values before carrying out the adjustment.

The following are the selection of functions.
TV Option
i. Standard TV system settings: Select NTSC or PAL whichever is applicable in user's country.
ii. Select output settings: Select S Video or Composite in accordance with the output terminal.
iii. Image enchancement settings: Select the Flicker Filtrer option to reduce flickering.
iv. Adjust display position settings: Adjust the image with the arrow buttons. Pressing the centre button among the arrow buttons will reset the image position to the default.
v. Contrast settings: To adjust contrast.
vi. Brightness settings - To adjust brightness.

Gamma Correction
i. Gamma correction function: To adjust the brightness of each color (red, green and blue).
ii. Link of color slider: To adjust all colors gamma correction together.
iii. Default button: Press this button to restore the gamma correction value back to default settings.

* This graphics accelerator is not capable of displaying images in the over-scanned state by changing the aspect ratio of the screen. The images are always displayed in the under-scanned state.

5. Click OK to close all dialog boxes.


B. For S3 Savage / IX8 graphics accelerator

1. Right-click an empty area on the desktop and click Properties.
2. Click Settings tab and click Advanced.
3. Click S3 DuoVue tab, select TV option and click Apply.
4. Click Yes and click Settings.
5. Adjust the image quality and display status with reference to the following selection of settings:

The following are the selection of functions.
i. Flicker filter setting: To improve flicker.
ii. Brightness setting: To adjust brightness.
iii. Contrast setting: To adjust contrast.
iv. Color setting: To adjust the color strength (adjusting the red color value)
v. Tint setting: To adjust the tint (adjusting the balance among red, green and blue)
vi. Standard button: To restore all values back to default.
vii. TV adjustment: To adjust the TV settings.

For Adjust TV setting:
i. Horizontal/Vertical size setting: Adjust the horizontal and vertical sizes with the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons .
ii. Position: To adjust the image position.
iii. Lock aspect ratio: To fix the aspect ratio to 4:3.
When this is fixed, adjusting the vertical size will also change the horizontal size proportionately.
iv. Test pattern button: To show the screen for adjustment.

6. Click OK to close all dialog boxes.


C. For graphics accelerators containing Intel 815EM Chipset

1. Right-click an empty area on the desktop and click Properties.
2. Click Settings tab and click Advanced.
3. Click Intel Graphics Technology tab and click Graphics Properties.
4. Click Set TV.
* Select the Full Screen (without border) option and click OK. The TV output is displayed in the over-scanned state (in full screen).
5. Adjust the image quality and display status with reference to the following selection of settings:
i. Contrast settings: To adjust the contrast.
ii. Flicker filter settings: To improve flickering.
iii. Positioning settings: To adjust the image positions with the arrow keys.
iv. Restore to default settings: To restore all values back to default.

6. Click OK.

D. For ATI RAGE MOBILITY Series Graphics Accelerator

1. Right-click an empty area on the desktop and click Properties.
2. Click Settings tab and click Advanced.
3. Click Display tab, click the green button and click Apply..
4. Click Yes.
* When the The change of this page has not been applied. message appears, click OK and click Apply.
* For Windows® Me and Windows® 2000 machines, TV is set as Primary at default.
If TV is set as Primary, the images of a DVD video are displayed on the TV, instead of the LCD.
5. Click TV to display the TV Properties dialog box.
6. Adjust the image quality and display status with reference to the following selection of settings:

a. Attribute tab
i. Brightness settings: To adjust brightness.
ii. Contrast settings: To adjust contrast.
iii. Chroma settings: To adjust chroma.

b. Adjustment tab
i. Image position settings: To adjust the display position up/down/left/right with the arrow buttons.
ii. Vertical size settings: To adjust the vertical size with the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons.
iii. Horizontal settings: To adjust the horizontal size with the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons.

c. Details tab
i. Composite filter control settings: To adjust the sharpness of images on devices which are connected through the composite video output terminal (inclusive of AV output terminal incorporating audio signals as well).
ii. S-video filter control settings: To adjust the sharpness of images when the S-video output terminal is in use.
iii. Border correction settings: To correct the aliasing of images.
iv. Flicker filter (Chroma) settings: To filter flicker in color signals.
v. Flicker filter (Luma) settings: To filter flicker in brightness signals.

* The System tab allows the selection of TV system signals. The settings need not be changed.
In case it becomes impossible to display images normally after some changes, set it to NTSC-M in the Select TV System mode.
* This graphics accelerator may not display images in the full over-scanned state even if after changing the vertical and horizontal sizes of the screen.

7. Click OK to close all dialog boxes.


E. For ATI MOBILITY RADION Series Graphics Accelerator

1. Right-click an empty area on the desktop and click Properties.
2. Click Settings tab and click Advanced.
3. Click Display tab and click the red button on the upper right of the TV button.
4. Click Apply and click Yes.
* When the The change of this page has not been applied. message appears, click OK and click Apply.
5. Click TV, adjust the image quality and display status with reference to the following selection of settings:

a. Attribute tab
i. Contrast settings: To adjust contrast.
ii. Chroma settings: To adjust chroma.

b. Adjustment tab
i. Display position settings: To adjust the display position up/down/left/right with the arrow buttons.
ii. Vertical size settings: To adjust the vertical size with the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons.
iii. Horizontal settings: To adjust the horizontal size with the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons.

c. Details tab
