What to do when cannot input keyboard properly?

■ Check the current situation.
Confirm which keys on the keyboard cannot be used, or what happens when users use those keys.



■ Please check if the following conditions are true.

Fn key cannot be used.
Please refer to the following information.



The Brightness Control Key, Volume Control Key, and VAIO Action Setup Key cannot be used.
Please refer to the following information.




■ Please confirm whether users have spilt a drink or some other type of foreign matters into the keyboard.
Foreign matters falling into the keyboard can result in keyboard problems.
Please check the keyboard and confirm whether it is the cause of the issue.



■Please confirm whether Num Lock function is enabled.
If the typed letters such as U, I, O, J, K, L are displayed as numbers, Num Lock function is enabled.
Users can confirm whether Num Lock function is enabled or disabled by checking the indicator light of Num Lock.
If the indicator is on, Num Lock function is enabled.

When Num Lock function is enabled, press Num Lock on the keyboard to disable its function.
Make sure that the indicator light of Num Lock is off.
※Different computer models have different key names on the keyboard.



■ Confirm whether Filter Function is enabled.
If its function is enabled, please configure the related settings to disable it.

Different Operating Systems have different steps to disable Filter Function.
Please refer to the following information for more details.

● In Windows XP
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Click Accessibility Options in Control Panel.

  3. In Accessibility Options dialog box, please confirm whether Use FilterKeys of Keyboard option is checked.

    If Use FilterKeys is checked, the Filter function is enabled.
    Uncheck Use FilterKeys and then click OK to disable the Filter function.


●In Windows Vista
  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Accessories-Ease of Access-Ease of Access Center-Make the keyboard easier to use consecutively.

  3. In Make the keyboard easier to use dialog box, click Set up Filter Keys,and then confirm whether Turn on Filter Keys is checked.

    If Turn on Filter Keys is checked, the Filter Function is enabled.
    Uncheck Turn on Filter Keys, and then click Save.





■ Update the keyboard driver.
Different Operating Systems have different steps to update the keyboard driver.
Please refer to the following contents for more details.

●In Windows XP
  1. Double click My computer, and then click Properties to open Device Manager.

  2. In Device Manager,click + on the left of Keyboard.

  3. Right click the item displayed, and then click Properties.


  4. Click the Driver option,and then click Update Driver....


  5. Check Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.


  6. Check Don't search. I will choose the device to install, and then click Next.


  7. Uncheck Show compatible hardware, click (Standard keyboards) in Manufacturer,select the appropriate item in Model and click Next.

  8. For some computer models, the information below may appear.
    Click Finish.

    Update Driver Warning
    Installing the device driver is not recommended because Windows cannot verify that it is compatible with your hardware. If the driver is not compatible, your hardware will not work correctly and your computer might become unstable or completely stop working. Do you want to continue installing this driver?


  9. Click Finish in Completing the Hardware Update Wizard.


● In Windows Vista

Note
Please log on with the Administrator account to perform the following steps.
  1. The Device Manager dialogue box appears.

  2. Double click Keyboards.


  3. When the Keyboard Driver is displayed, right click Keyboards, and then click Properties.


  4. Click Driver, and then click Update Driver....


  5. Click Browse my computer for driver software.


  6. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.


  7. Close Show compatible hardware,click (Standard keyboards) in Manufacturer, select the appropriate item in Model, and then click Next.


  8. Click Close.

    Update Driver Warning
    It is not recommended installing the device because Windows cannot verify if it is compatible with your hardware. If the driver is not compatible, your hardware will not work correctly and your computer might become unstable or completely stop working. Do you want to continue installing this driver?


  9. Start installing the driver.


  10. Click Close.


  11. When the dialogue box below appears, Click Close.


  12. When System settings change dialogue box appears, click Yes.


  13. Then reboot the system.
