Precision Cinema Progressive
Using twice the number of scanning lines compared to the more common interlaced format, Progressive Scan is able to accurately reproduce the naturalness of rocks, water and even the texture of skin. Clearly notice the difference on a large-screen TV, where scanning lines from interlaced scanning are quite apparent.
A poor Progressive Scan system does not feature the advanced technology to distinguish scenes combining a variety of elements, such as after effects, resulting in the phenomenon depicted above. Sony’s Precision Cinema Progressive is equipped to recognize such elements, resulting in excellent picture playback. Sony’s newly developed V-Edge Compensation function ensures that even images with lots of diagonal lines are reproduced cleanly and without the annoying edges that reveal the scanning lines, a phenomenon often referred to as staircasing.
Note: Progressive scan playback requires a TV or monitor capable of decoding the progressive scan signal. All images have been simulated for explanatory purposes. The new 12bit/108MHz Video D/A Converter performs superior high bit sampling while reducing signal-to-noise ratio for outstanding picture quality.
